WorkshopsThese courses will introduce participants to the process of lost wax casting from wax forms. Modelling techniques - including forms from moulds, carving and additive construction - will be covered. Simple mould making, including silicone or rubber flexible moulds and plaster moulds will be included. You will be given the opportunity to use the moulds to make a small bronze form that may be produced in multiples. (This will be in addition to any other forms created, but will be within the allowed quota of bronze and casting materials.) You will be taken through all stages of the lost wax ceramic shell casting process, ceramic shell application, spruing systems, bronze pouring, fettling and patination. You will finish the course with enough knowledge of the process to continue modelling to a stage ready for casting. The class will include video and slide presentations of processes and the sculptural use of bronze. This course is for students wishing to explore creative work in Bronze and will not include high precision processes. Materials to produce a prearranged amount in kilos of bronze will be supplied for each student. The course is open both to beginners and those with some experience as the emphasis will be on individual progression. |
